Since its debut, GammaOS has been a worthwhile project to watch. By creating modified firmware largely based on LineageOS, the OS seeks to bring Android to Linux-based devices. For people who utilize modified firmware on their Android phones, LineageOS is the most widely used Android distribution.

Players can anticipate that certain features won't work as they usually do on a phone when using Android on these outdated and powerful retro handhelds. Bloatware should be absent since GammaOS is built on a clean version of LineageOS. However, because GammaOS comes preconfigured for vintage handhelds, it raises the bar a little.

Magisk root manager is preinstalled on the full-featured version of GammaOS: AdGuard, the Aurora Store, a backup Android app store, and the Daijosho front end.

GammaOS Lite is available for devices with lower processing power, but the modified firmware is usually provided as a simplified version alone. Google apps and services are not included in Lite to distribute the available performance further.

The core is all of that and more. Core uses the Android fork available for small streaming boxes, which are sometimes far less capable than many vintage handhelds, rather than the one designed for phones. It forgoes Daijisho in favour of Plain Launcher, a simple Android frontend designed by Boko Yoss, focusing on portability and functionality.

This is a comprehensive list of known issues and finished features shared on the GammaOS Patreon.
