How to Play Games on Delta for iPhone

This is an exciting time for those who own an iPhone or iPad. We never imagined the day an accurate game emulator would be available on the Play Store. Apple has been rather strict about preventing apps like Delta from becoming available in the App Store until now.

That has all changed because you can now load games for the iOS Delta emulator. One of the best game emulators available for smartphones, the software is free to download and has no noticeable advertisements. You've arrived at the correct site if you're unsure how to use Delta for iPhone to play games or where to begin.

What Systems Does Delta Support?

Delta isn't restricted to a single system, unlike some of the other iPhone emulators for vintage games that have surfaced before later being removed from the App Store. Instead, it is possible to replicate seven distinct game systems on your device.

  • Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES)
  • Nintendo 64
  • Game Boy (Color)
  • Game Boy Advance
  • Nintendo DS
  • Sega Genesis

For the time being, this is the limit. According to the official App Store page, there are "plenty more to come," although it doesn't specify what further systems might be coming. In the future, we might see devices like the Nintendo 3DS or GameCube. But we'll have to cross our fingers until that day comes.

How to Play Games in Delta

Now that Delta has been installed adding some games to your iPhone is time. We won't discuss where or how to obtain ROMs for your emulation requirements. There are ways to learn how to extract the files from those old game cartridges so that you may use them in various emulators, but in the best-case scenario, it's a legally murky area. Here's how to add games to Delta on an iPhone, assuming you have the files available:

  1. On your iPhone, download and use the Delta app.
  2. In the upper right corner, tap the plus button.
  3. Go to the location where your ROM file or files are stored.
  4. Choose the game you wish to include in your Delta collection. If you want to add more than one game, long-press on one ROM, then tap to pick and add any more ROMs.
  5. Give the game library a few seconds to load.
  6. After choosing the game, begin playing!

Delta Missing Required DS Files

When you were eager to start playing your favorite Nintendo DS games, did you encounter the "Delta Missing Required DS Files" error notice? Although this may sound like a letdown, there is still hope because all you need to do to play DS games with Delta is provide your own BIOS data.

  1. Tap the Settings button in the upper left corner of the Delta app while it is open.
  2. To access the Core Settings area, scroll below.
  3. Tap Nintendo DS.
  4. The following three files must be provided under the DS BIOS Files section:
  • bios7.bin
  • bios9.bin
  • firmware.bin
  1. After tapping each option, locate and choose the relevant file to load into Delta.

Since these files can only be obtained by physically emptying them from your own DS, we are sadly unable to provide the location of their acquisition.

Change Game Artwork

Delta does a fantastic job of providing us access to our various game libraries, and it's great to play retro games on an iPhone or iPad. Even if some games are in the app, you may notice that the artwork for those games is absent. You can manually alter the artwork directly from the app if this occurs to you.

  1. Get your iPhone's Delta app open.
  2. Find the game for which you wish to modify the artwork, then long-press it.
  3. In the menu that displays, select "Change Artwork."
  4. Select one of the following:
  • Clipboard
  • Photo Library
  • Games Database
  • Files

The fact that Delta offers the Game Database option is a plus. This allows you to locate artwork for a particular game without searching for the right image. Instead, you delegate the heavy lifting to Delta, but you can also perform it yourself.

Change Controller Skins

Playing some of your favorite childhood games isn't the only thing you can do with Delta. Changing the "controller skins" on the screen while playing is one of the many customization options available in the emulator. To switch controller skins in Delta, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Settings button in the upper left corner of the Delta app while it is open.
  2. To access the Controller Skins section, scroll below.
  3. Choose the console for which you wish to modify the skin.
  4. Either tap the Landscape or Portrait preview.
  5. Choose the skin you want to switch to.

You should notice the new controller skin applied the next time you launch a game!

Where to Find Controller Skins and How to Add Them to Delta

Depending on the retro system you're playing, Delta comes with a few distinct controller skins right out of the box. You aren't "stuck" with the basic skins; you can access various skins. To help you get started, here are several repositories:

  • Delta Skins
  • LitRitt Designs
  • Skins4Delta

We advise making a folder on your iPhone to store any controller skins you download before continuing. Although it's not strictly necessary, it will be helpful if you intend to download many skins and wish to access them later.

After completing that and downloading your skins, follow these steps to add them to the Delta app:

  1. Tap the Settings button in the upper left corner of the Delta app while it is open.
  2. To access the Controller Skins section, scroll below.
  3. Choose the console for which you wish to modify the skin.
  4. Either tap the Landscape or Portrait preview.
  5. Tap the plus button in the upper right corner.
  6. Go to the folder where you saved the Controller Skin that you downloaded.
  7. Choose the Controller Skin.

What Controllers Can I Use With Delta?

It should not be shocking to learn that Delta allows you to use more than just on-screen controls. Although having this option is nice, connecting your iPhone to a device like the Razer Kishi Ultra or GameSir Galileo G8 is a far better alternative. In light of this, the following controllers are compatible with Delta and can be used to play classic games on your iPhone:

  • Nintendo Switch Pro controller
  • Joy-Cons
  • Switch Online controllers (NES, SNES, N64)
  • DualShock 4 (PS4)
  • DualSense (PS5)
  • Xbox Core Controller
  • Xbox Elite Controllers
  • MFi game controllers
  • Bluetooth & wired keyboards

How to Customize Controls

You've paired your iPhone with a controller, but you don't like how the buttons are arranged by default. Don't be afraid! Delta allows you to modify and remap the controls for almost any controller you wish to use. Please note that certain buttons may not be able to be assigned.

  1. Tap the Settings button in the upper left corner of the Delta app while it is open.
  2. Tap Player 1 in the Controllers section.
  3. Press the button labeled "Customize Controls."
  4. On the screen, tap the button you wish to modify.
  5. Press the button on the controller that corresponds to the function you want to utilize.
  6. If you want to remap any other controls, follow the same procedures.
  7. Use the same steps if you want to remap any other controls.

Set Up Syncing

Are you concerned about syncing your saves when you play games on Delta from an iPhone and an iPad? Fortunately, Delta Sync can handle all of your data synchronizing requirements.

  1. Tap the Settings button in the upper left corner of the Delta app while it is open.
  2. Tap Service after navigating to the Delta Sync section.
  3. Choose Dropbox or Google Drive.
  4. Enter your password and corresponding email address to log in.

Once set up, the cloud will sync all of your games and save files, skins, and even the Nintendo DS BIOS files. Enable Delta Sync and ensure you're signed into the same cloud service on both devices.

Use Cheat Codes

Cheat codes were ubiquitous in the good old days of gaming, but they typically required a separate device or a combination of buttons. Fortunately, there aren't many requirements these days. The Delta emulator supports Action Replay, GameShark, or Code Breaker (GBA only).

  1. Launch Delta and launch your preferred game.
  2. Press the Menu button.
  3. Select Cheat Codes from the display option.
  4. In the upper right corner, tap the plus button.
  5. Give the cheat code a name.
  6. Choose between Code Breaker, Game Genie, or Pro Action Replay.
  7. Enter the cheat code in the Code block.
  8. In the upper right corner, tap the Save button.

Once a cheat code has been added, it will be activated automatically, and a checkmark will be displayed to indicate this. You can choose another hack in your game or hit the name to turn it off.

How to AirPlay Delta to Apple TV

Although using the Delta emulator on your iPhone to play old games is fantastic, you may have hoped for support on Apple TV. A more pleasant gaming experience is always achieved with larger screens, and Delta has a secret weapon. You can stream your iPhone games to an Apple TV or any AirPlay-compatible device using Apple's built-in AirPlay capability.

For this to function, the device you wish to AirPlay with and your iPhone must be linked to the same Wi-Fi network. Here's how to use AirPlay with Delta once that's finished:

  1. Get your iPhone's Delta app open.
  2. Choose the game you wish to play and launch it.
  3. Control Center is accessible by swiping down from the upper right corner.
  4. Press the AirPlay icon, which resembles two overlapping rectangles.
  5. Choose the device on which you would like Delta to appear.
  6. To verify the connection, enter the four-digit code when prompted.

Playing vintage games with Delta on your iPhone via AirPlay has a few intriguing features. The bottom screen will be active when playing Nintendo DS games, while the top screen appears on your TV. Additionally, you can still use your iPhone to operate any old console you're imitating. This also functions if your iPhone is coupled with a controller, which will likely be a more pleasant and comfortable experience.
